Rumors About General Hospital
Hospitals are filled with life and death, joy and sorrow. Babies are born and people die. Life begins. Life ends. "General Hospital" seeks to show us the drama of such a place -- the life and death, as well as the joy and sorrow.
"General Hospital" is a daytime soap opera, which has now been running season after season for decades. The plots of these "General Hospital" episodes swirl around the lives of those connected to this hospital. As these plots thicken, rumors about "General Hospital" swirl around homes, offices and other places of business, spread by those who enjoy watching the show. People become "hooked" and want to know what will happen next. In this way, such soap operas can take on lives of their own, becoming something exciting in the middle of an otherwise boring or sad existence.
Rumors about "General Hospital", however, are just that - rumors. No one really knows what will happen next, unless it should somehow get leaked out by those connected with the show, and that is not supposed to happen. It is kind of like guessing what will happen to our lives in the future. Only God really knows about our future. We will only know what will happen to us in the future if God shows us from his Word, The Bible.
The life of those who do not know God can indeed be like a big swirl, as it often is in a soap opera such as General Hospital. The Bible says:
"But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked." (Isaiah 57:20-21)
Many people like to spread or hear rumors about "General Hospital". Perhaps these two will get married. Will this relationship get patched up? Will she find out the truth? What will happen to them next? One thing, though, can generally be counted upon: Although fairy tales often end up with, "and they lived happily ever after", this is usually not the case with such soap operas. And why not? The reason is that the creators of "General Hospital" know what you already know deep down within yourself: that "there is no peace saith my God, to the wicked".
Your life is probably pretty much a meaningless swirl. Such deep questions as: "Why am I here?", "Where did I come from?", and "Where am I going?" are not answered in the story-lines or rumors about "General Hospital".
Jesus once met a woman who was getting water at a well. This woman's life was like many of the women in soap operas such as "General Hospital" -- and perhaps like your life as well. Basically, this woman had a really messed-up life. She had already gone through many relationships with men, and was on at least her sixth man at the time. Nevertheless, all of her previous relationships ended up in broken marriages. To avoid the pain of divorce, she was just living with her current man without being married to him.
This "woman at the well" met a new man that day. His name was Jesus. Jesus asked her to give Him some water. She then asked Jesus why He had asked her for this water:
"Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water." (John 4:10)
The woman thought that Jesus was talking to her about water from the well. Jesus therefore told her that He was talking about different water:
"Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life." (John 4:13-14)
Jesus was offering to her not a cup of water from the well, but the water of Eternal Life! She knew that her life was a big swirl of sadness and sin. She therefore trusted Jesus and Jesus forgave her for her sin right then and there. Her life was suddenly changed. She was so excited, happy, fulfilled, and at peace. She went right away and told all of her friends what Jesus had just done for her.
Your life does not have to be filled with sin and sadness. Jesus can give you a new life. Let Jesus forgive your sins and he will give you joy inside -- something that you can never really get from watching "General Hospital" or any other soap opera. Life and your relationships will suddenly have real meaning when you begin your new relationship with Jesus, the Son of God.
Trust Jesus today, and He will save you from your sin. Then find a good Fundamentalist Baptist church to join and find some new Christian friends who will care about you. Put Jesus and the Bible first, and may God bless you as you do it.
